I am many times somewhat upset on people. They have some very strange ideas about dobermans, and most of them doesn’t take the time to know at least a little bit them. Many time I encountered that having a doberman makes me scary person, like I would be dangerous or at least unsociable, angry aggressive person. Well maybe sometimes I am, but it’s not the rule. Anyway, dobermans are one of the most loyal, loving pets. They are not bad dogs, they are not willing to kill anything that moves!

What does makes me happy that actually a few friends of mine told me after spending some time with PrezLee that this dog, and he being a doberman is totally different than they were expecting. It made my heart melt to hear this words, because now I know at least 4-5 people who changed his/her mind about dobermans.

Hopefully will be many more people who will come to me and say, sorry for misunderstanding this gorgeous lovely breed. Because they are. They have such a big soul you wouldn’t imagine.

From time to time he becomes a little bit “crazy”. It is hard to describe the craziness, I thing it has to do with the thing that he is a somewhat dominant male, and from time to time tries if I am still the boss… There are no signs of aggression here, so no worries. But things like wanting to be the first who goes out on the door, pulling the leas, wanting to walk in front of me, and small stuff like that makes me believe he still didn’t gave up on this. Its ok, because I take care so I am the first who goes out, I am the first who has the right to eat, there are “forbidden” places in the house where only I have access, I eat and he can really watch until I am finished.

It is really hard to describe…

PrezLee always tries to see where are the limits. I guess all dogs are kinda like this We went to our regular afternoon walk. It was to a nearby “green place”, where I can let him to run and play without a leash. This is not a huge place, but it is the nearest where we can play, so this is our first stop usually. For a few days when I let him free, he started a somewhat strange and annoying barking at me, running around in circles, and somehow “hunting me”. It was clearly a behavior to piss me off. For 2 days consecutively he managed to do this, I had hard time to catch him, bring him home and be angry for about an hour. And this is not a good thing.

So yesterday I decided to change my behavior, went to the same place, he started to bark and run and be crazy again, and I turned my back to him and walked away. The whole craziness ended in about 2 minutes or less, and he was fully surprised, that all his efforts to make a scene and annoy me was useless.

The following video is just a small “demo”… here he was just a puppy .

Probably because every time we used the car we went somewhere out, where he liked it, now the car is something special for PrezLee. Actually if I take the car keys, he instantly knows that we will go with the car, he runs down, waits for me to open the garage door, and goes directly to the cars door and waits for me to open it.

When I plan to go somewhere, he always becomes agitated and anxious to go, so if I want to have the last minutes before I go free of extra tension, I take him down, put in the car and I can focus on not forgetting anything at home. He is a 100% good boy in the car, if its necessary he waits for hours. Just to be sure he is the first to go.

Now, in autumn I usually take him to sopping too… In summer time I can do that because of the extreme heats, and usually no shadows in the parking places, but these days are not too cold out, and not to hot… so he waits in the parked car. Sometimes it happens to have admirers looking at him.

Lately he started to bark at people who are staring at him while he sits in the car Like a good guard dog ) Until now he was just looking and wondering, but now shows some teethes too.

Today was a strange day… I went some place and it was quite late. I didn’t wanted to let him at home, so I figured I go, and I let him in the car. I knew its a place where he is not afraid, he is comfortable, there was cold outside, and he can sleep there. That is what happened. We went to the other side of the city, I went in the house, he was sleeping in the car. When I went back to the car he was so sleepy, that I wanted to let him out for a quick pee or something, and he was looking at me with a face: omg do you know how late it is??? Let me sleep

After starting the engine he usually sits between the two front chairs, and watches the road. Sometimes he changes his position, and looks after what is behind us…

It took some time until he understand that he is not allowed to annoy the driver, nor to come and sit on the front sit. Only the back sit is allowed when the engine is running, and I noticed from time to time, that when I let him out in the car, he occupies the front sit near the driver.

Something like this :

in summer time he likes to have the window opened and puts his head out…

A strange photo taken when we were going to my parents place, but we encountered a traffic jam.

Yesterday we had a “fight”. Sometimes he is just simply crazy… And I am 100% sure he really knows that with that behavior he annoys me very much. We went walking. And unfortunately the place where we use to play sometimes is visited by some homeless people, they eat there, and let there mess and leftovers. And this silly dog found a bone. Of course he took it, although he KNOWS its a bad thing to do. He didn’t eat the bone right away, but started to run like crazy, and come to me, run away, just to show me: LOOK WHAT I HAVE, I know its a bad thing but now Catch me if you can…

Its a situation where… there is nothing really to do. If I start running after him, he thinks I am playing… I am pissed of because he took that stuff, and I am not even in the situation to leave it to run, because of the space limitations… So I am stucked 100%.

It took a while until I managed to make him obey… And it was a damn hard thing, to remain sort of relaxed… when I was more willing to scream and beat the sh….t out of him… After I managed to impose myself, he came to me, we made some obedience exercises… And yeah he knew how angry I was. Damn, sometimes I am just wondering how much nerves there are needed for a crazy dobe like PrezLee.

Now I am preparing for the next walk… I have a long leash, about 5-6 meters long. When he was young I used it, because he didn’t know how long that leash was, and his “you can’t catch me” distance was lower than this. When I needed to catch him, I just grabbed the end of the long leash, and pulled over. He was surprized, but learned that “come here” means to come to me, not to run like an idiot in circles. For a few months we didn’t needed this “tool”, he was very reasonable when I told him to come to me. For a few days he starts to be a little bit crazy, so I need to make some changes.

The good thing with the long leash is that I can easily catch the end of the long leash, and the dog doesn’t manages to piss me off. So I can stay calm, and relaxed.

The worst thing is living in the city is the lack of space. Because when we were out in the woods and he was crazy, I knew I have a lot of space to go and let him be crazy. If he didn’t wanted to follow, I just let him there. After a while he realized that I am serious… But here, with the limited space I am somehow frustrated because I can do things like that.

I know, many consider cruelty to have a dogs ears cropped. I consider everybody’s decision to have its dogs ears cropped or not. The other dog I had, had long, uncropped ears. It managed to hurt itself on an accidental dog fight, and for years we had problems with its ears. Because it were long, anytime it shake his head, the ears started to bleed. It took months to heal, and it was very painful to the dog. It doesn’t liked to be petted on its head because of this.

That was one issue I decided to crop.

The other was pure aesthetic. Blame me, but that’s the true. About 15 years ago, when I first saw a Doberman, the very first thing that made an impression was HOW IT LOOKED. That time all dobermans had cropped ears, and it really changes the look of the dog. So I decided to have its ears cropped.

I didn’t had my ears cropped, so I am just guessing here, but I am sure it doesn’t suffered as much as it looks like. The cropping was made by doctors, under general anesthesia, the dog was up and playing after 2 hours like nothing happened. I figured out, it was more unpleasant the itching while the ears were healing, but it only took about 2 weeks.

PrezLee the brown doberman is one and a half year old. It was born on 29 March 2009, and became a family member on 17th May 2008. To have a puppy was a hard decision to make, because we currently live in the “middle” of the city, so sometimes can be harsh and displeasing to have a dog. But after thinking a lot I’ve decided that its better to have a dog, than not to have a dog.

Having a dog its almost like having a baby. Sometimes a little worst.. Because I am not allowed here to take the bus WITH the dog, and obviously you can do that with a baby … But this are just small issues, and luckily I have a car, so we are not even thinking to take the bus anyway. But it needs to be taken care, to have food, water, to take out for big walks, to take it to the doctor regularly, to have its shots and so on. And yea I need to come home in time, or if I want to go away for a few days, I need to find a place where I know the dog is safe. I have luck there to… because my parents live in a near village, and there I can take the dog for a few days off…

Now… dobermans are amazing dogs. I had one before, and kind’a knew what I was going to have. But PrezLee managed to amaze me on a daily basis. Its like 10x “worst” than the other dog. It had a blog from the first day of its life spent here, but that’s in Hungarian language. I thought it would be great to show the world how really special dogs dobermans are. They are not vicious, not bad, not aggressive, but loving, kind and fun dogs. They are not for anyone, that’s true, because they are amazingly powerful, but in the right hands they are something very special.

Now … my native language is not english… so please excuse the writing errors and mistakes Hope you will have a great time with PrezLee the brown doberman and our adventures!
