Saturday we went outside from the city to a big walk. It was not sunny outside but definitely smelled like spring
. We walked about 2 hours, the dog finally had his run, and after we took it home he went sleeping. Definitely he is a god dog, a perfect pet but he needs a lot of exercise. Without it he will make my house a mess, he will slowly kill all my nerves one after another. So if you do not have the time to walk and let him run you better choose another breed, because it will make both your and the dogs life miserable.
Luckily since the weather is turning sunny we won’t have any problems. Usually 2 times a week we went outside the city for a 2-3 hour walk, and in weekends we visited my parents where they have a huge yard, and another great place to walk. This way the rest of the week, a shorter city walk was enough.

I am thinking about getting a doberman puppy. I do not have a fenced yard. Will walking him on a leash everyday be enough exercise? I like your blog; very interesting everyday, plain simple information that is useful for someone thinking about a Doberman.
I tried to comment on your last post, but I can’t tell if the comment was submitted?
Hello Nora
Walking a doberman daily, just on the leash I don’t consider it enough. Our “basic” daily walk is about 3 kilometers, only if the weather is very bad, I am sick, he is sick we go less. But this is just simply not enough for him. We add to this “outside walks”, 2-3 times a week, when we take the car, go out from the city, and he can run like crazy for 1-2 hours. In weekends he is also out, we usually go walking, or we go out to my parents place, they live in a village where he have plenty of space to run. So considering to me, a daily walk, only on a leash is NOT enough for a doberman. They are very (very very very) energetic dogs.
If you don’t want an unhappy dog, and from this a very unhappy dog owner, you will need to give more exercise for your doberman, or he will be a so called “bad dog” who will ruin everything he can in the house. They are bored very easily.
