As I mentioned in a comment to somebody who asked… dobermans are very energic dogs.  They need a lot of walking, and if they don’t get it, they become destructive. They are not “bad dogs”, but they definitely need to be busy, and tired to be “good dogs”… I mean to stay at his place and sleep while I have to work.

Luckily the weather is turning great, on Saturday we had a 1 hour walk where he had enough place to run, and we can go back to our “program” again, the 2-3 times a week huge walks where he can run as much as he needs. Oh and time for rollerskating, and biking too!

If you want to be trully happy with the dog you have, try to get a breed that is like you. If you are  a person who likes to rest a lot, don’t get a doberman, because you will make your life miserable. Get a “lazier” dog.  Or… if you are lazy, get a doberman, only if you are willing to change your lifetstyle definitely a doberman is a good companion for sports. We used to go running together, he can run for kilometers while I am on my bike, he can run after the car…

Choosing the right breed is very essential for a happy living together. It’s like.. you don’t buy a Ferrari for a family car!

But let’s start from the beginning : D He had a great weekend, because I took him out to my parents place. We spent the weekend there, and we were walking on the hills a lot. Also he had time to stay out in the yard, because the weather was fine. So yesterday when we came home, he was already tired.

Today I went shopping, and I took the dog with me. It is not too cold out, and also not to warm either, so he can stay and wait in the car. And he just adores to go with the car, so I usually take him with me shopping. He guards the car while I am inside. He is such a good boy, when he sits in the car, that I could let him even an hour, and the only thing he would do is to sit, watch carefully and wait for me. Never even tried to destroy the car.  never. Everything else has his bite marks, but the car is something he never ever tried to harm. He knows probably that the car is the device that takes ous out to huge walks.

I didn’t had much to shop, but it was a specific place I needed to go, and it was on the other end of the town. I was thinking, that if I go so far away, and so close to the hills, I take him again to a bigger walk. But I changed my mind. I found a road, where was nobody, and I decided to sit in the car, and follow him He was running in front of the car, at the speed he wanted and I was going after him. So this way I knew, when he stops, he is tired, until he runs, he enjoys this kind of exercise. And I had right. After a while he was running slower, and than stopped.  The good thing on this road, was that we met 1 car, and the  good in bad thing, that it is so bad road, that nobody can go with speed. So it was perfectly safe for everybody, especially for him to run there.

And of course… now he is dead tired, sleeping like a baby, and it is so peaceful. Tomorow probably will be the same and on Wednesday will take him out again, so he gets enough “sport” until the next weekend. Of course the days when we don’t go outside the city, we have our regular city walk.

To avoid this, obviously I moved the trash can, to the bathroom, where he doesn’t have access all the time. Except when I don’t lock the door, he opens the door and maybe checks the trash can. Lately he is not that interested in what I throw out, but still, the old trash can must stay there.

But in the kitchen I need a trash can, its pain to go with every small piece of junk to the bathroom. So I decided to get a new trash can, a smaller one, with a flip-flap, and see whats happening.

I take the can home, put it to the right place and in less than 10 minutes he was inspecting the trash can with his head INSIDE. This was a very good opportunity to “fix” the issue I started yelling like crazy, making very angry noise I usually don’t make, that my boyfriend got scared instantly. He couldn’t imagine what is wrong with me. Of course the dog went away from the trash can, he was looking at me, like wtf just happened… and well since that moment he didn’t touched the new trash can. After this I had to explain to my boyfriend what was all this about

That I thought if I can catch him right at the beginning, and he gets a bad experience touching the new trash can, he will remember and not touch it again. It was exactly the way he stopped mutilating my flowers.  He was biting one of the flowers in the pot, when accidentally he managed to make the pot fall down. In a second he realized if he touches the flower, it will make a huge crash bum bang, and never touched any of them since.

Luckily since the weather is turning sunny we won’t have any problems. Usually 2 times a week we went outside the city for a 2-3 hour walk, and in weekends we visited my parents where they have a huge yard, and another great place to walk. This way the rest of the week, a shorter city walk was enough.

And he likes to move his pillow around the house, just to get closer to us.

This was not really happening for a few weeks, it was cold outside, and he doesn’t really handles well -15C … So our walks were short, just to the corner and back. Not enough for him that’s for sure.

But today the weather was fine, so I took the dog, put him in the car (figuratively, because he jumps in alone, he likes to go with the car very much)and went to a nice place near the city.. We walked about 1 hour and 30 minutes, it was so refreshing and relaxing! And now my crazy brown doberman sleeps like an angel… Oh boy how I like when everything goes well at the end of the day!
