Yesterday I went to a breeder and made a deposit for my first Doberman puppy. I have asked for a female, black and tan. The litter should arrive March 21! I am excited.

Hi, I do not have a Dobe yet, but studying all I can on the breed and thinking of getting one. In fact, I am going to visit a breeder this week to see the parents. Where are you located? I am in Tennessee, USA.

Hello Nora
Walking a doberman daily, just on the leash I don't consider it enough. Our "basic" daily walk is about 3 kilometers, only if the weather is very bad, I am sick, he is sick we go less. But this is just simply not enough for him. We add to this "outside walks", 2-3 times a week, when we take the car, go out from the city, and he can run like crazy for 1-2 hours. In weekends he is also out, we usually go walking, or we go out to my parents place, they live in a village where he have plenty of space to run. So considering to me, a daily walk, only on a leash is NOT enough for a doberman. They are very (very very very) energetic dogs.
If you don't want an unhappy dog, and from this a very unhappy dog owner, you will need to give more exercise for your doberman, or he will be a so called "bad dog" who will ruin everything he can in the house. They are bored very easily.

I am thinking about getting a doberman puppy. I do not have a fenced yard. Will walking him on a leash everyday be enough exercise? I like your blog; very interesting everyday, plain simple information that is useful for someone thinking about a Doberman.

I like the pics of your Doberman. I have never owned one, in fact, I have not had many dogs. I have read and talked to people about it for a good while and am seriously thinking about getting one. Tell us more about your life with a brown doberman. He is training well? Age?
